A Very Good Night...
The Warwick Arts Centre is massive, I hadn't realised just how big the complex was, so it was a bit of a shock when i got there (I have made a point now to do a bit more research on upcoming venues).
First up were The Plasticine Men, with a wild and rolling work in progress called Cargo, based around the Cargo cult which sprang up as a result of the influence of the US military upon indigenous pacific islanders. Full of beautiful ideas and lovely moments, the piece felt like it needed to be structured more and developed in terms of an overall arc.
Next up it was me, and it was interesting to see how different the show felt from last week's performance at the Arnolfini. This time it was far less funny, instead it was darker and more tragic than comic. Again it was great to get lots of positive feedback.
The highlight for me was seeing Action Hero at work. After months of sitting opposite them at Residence, doing nothing more interesting tan writing script and answering emails, it was a delight to see them perform. The show, A Western, recreates archetypal scenes from Westerns. Playful, poignant, funny, and connected to it's audience in a direct and honest way. The favorite moment for me was the 'shoot out' with some point perfect audience involvement.
It would be great to get feedback if you were there, whether it's positive or critcal, it's always good to find out what people thought.
Many thanks to Alison, Paul, Simon, and everybody at WAC.
