My Rubbish Back- Suggestions Wanted.


I'm looking for suggestions about what treatments i should try out for my rubbish back that won't stop hurting down the left side and in a band across the base, and i am seeking these suggestions from you, dear reader of my blog. Please add them as a comment to this post.

Hi Ed. Came here to see what you thought of last night and saw your back problems plea. My tuppenyworth is... I've been to a physio loads this year for my back and she reckons it's all about core strength exercises. Your traversus abdominus, the muscle that holds your back up, doesn't get exercised by any normal sports / activities and if it's weak (more often is in men than women) the job of holding all your weight up falls onto muscles that aren't meant for it; hence the problems.

Don't be so hard on your back and learn to love it, think of it kindly and treat it gently.
This should put you in a better frame of mind and enable you to anaylise what is going on, when does it hurt what have I been doing?
A good tip is to spend at least 15 minutes per day laying on your back on the floor with the knees gently drawn up.
Our yoga teacher discribes this time as "money in the bank of youth".

It also provides a good oportunity for quite reflection.

I am giving a presentation to my yoga diploma course a week on Sunday, entitled 2The spine it's structure and function".
I'll send you a copy, it might throw some light on the matter.
