Protoype II

A gazillion theatre points to the Tobacco Factory for another excellent night of work-in-progress. Just as many are due to the fine burghers of Bristol who turned out in droves for the second time. There seemed to be a similar number of people as last time, so that's around 150! It is just brilliant to be getting that number of people through the door on a night like this.

The night opened with a showing in the bar by The Engine, a group of performers who had just completed a 4 day intensive workshop with Nick from Crack Theatre. Wild and chaotic.

Next up where Soap Soup, a puppetry company, I should apologise to them and you dear reader because I didn't actually see their show because owing to the fact that I was frantically nervous.

At this point I should draw attention to a potential source of bias: I was performing in two of the four pieces being shown that night: Firstly with Fairground Theatre as part of a massive, rolling, physical show. It was a byproduct of a 10 week workshop series called Higherground. I really enjoyed the performance, I like the games and the play involved and i think that the end product was was pretty damn good.

Topping off the night I performed as myself, doing some solo show stuff. Hence the nervousness earlier in the evening. The material was so fresh that i had a little sheet with keywords on it to remind me what to do next if i got lost. Luckily i didn't need to use it. I was really pleased with how it went, thank you to all the folks who provided feedback.

I now have a firm plan that i am working on a trilogy of shows, one of which is 10 Ways to Die on Stage, one of which will include the material that i showed at Prototype combined with the work from the Residence scratch night (now called Home Birth), and the third of which is, as yet, totally unwritten.

Kudos to Katie K, for organising Prototype, and the Tobacco Factory for hosting it. I think that this excellent event certainly needs to be repeated on a regular basis!
